When you think of 'Play' and the Las Vegas Valley, many will only think of casinos. Well there is more to life beyond the Strip, and Henderson offers an incredible amount of recreation for residents. That's why it's no surprise it was one of 67 that made the 2008 list of Playful City USA, from the many that applied. This is a project of KaBoom, that wants to create great places for children to play within walking distance from their homes, across the entire USA.
This was a perfect fit for Henderson, since they had much of the organizations requirements already in place. The Parks & Recreation Department felt this would also be an opportunity to learn how to do even more, by sharing ideas from others around the country. On Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, they will be holding Henderson's Official 'Get out and Play Day' at Mission Hills Park, at 551 Mission Drive, from 3:30 - 5:30 PM, with an assortment of planned activities. In the days leading up to this event, there will be special activities at all 34 elementary schools, and also the Henderson SafeKey sites and Recreation Centers.
Henderson has an amazing amount of recreation offerings and classes, from tiny tots to seniors. I mentioned and had links to many of them, and other community activities in my blog and Photo Tour of Whitney Ranch, one of the several Master Planned communities found in Henderson. You'll also notice this isn't the first award they've received for their parks and recreation, having been designated as a Sports Illustrated 'Sports Town'
These are all combined with other community events to be found in Henderson, and elsewhere around the Las Vegas Valley. I've blogged about were the Hawaiian Festival and Super Run Car Show, San Gennaro Feast, BalloonAPalooza, and even the Santa Train coming in December. These are just a very few of the activities that can be found here in addition to all the amazing entertainment choices, that makes the Las Vegas Valley such a great place to live.
