Roberta's Las Vegas Real Estate Blog: Las Vegas Dog & Cat - Chip & Clip

Las Vegas Dog & Cat - Chip & Clip

For all the Las Vegas pet lovers out there, this Saturday, September 6, the Animal Foundation is having a dog & cat Chip & Clip from 9AM - Noon. It takes place at their Regional Animal Campus at 655 Mojave, inside the adoption tent. For just $10 you can have your pet microchipped for identification if they should get away from you, and have their nails trimmed. You can also do a trim only for $5.

The microchipping can be a lifesaver if your pet gets away from you either without their tags or loses them while they're out. Worse yet, how would you identify your dog if taken by someone else. I had a friend back east that it happened to, and without the chip it would have been nearly impossible to prove it was their dog.

Speaking of lifesavers, another quick thought about pets and their safety. We have seatbelt and carseat laws, but pets often aren't considered when going for a ride. My better half is a private pilot, and with Jack Russell's love of motion, she was a natural to fly with him even as a pup. He made his own harness that attached to the belts in the airplane and of course worked well in the car, so we always buckle her in. For their safety and your own, it's something to consider...they become a projectile in an accident. You can see a crash test video here.

Roberta:  I have seen pets harnessed in a car and they do look very safe.  I was wondering how that's done.

Thanks for posting this!  My boys have their chip but they can always use a clip!

Hi Roberta!  My daughter has a Yorkie (Zoe) and a Westie (Baxter) and they both have their chips!

Have a great day!

What a great event in our community.  I will defintely tell others.  This is very important for you to do in order to protect your pets.

Donna: The harness is a great idea. It's already done well on a 'quick stop' from someone pulling out in front of us. She would have went sailing, I could only imagine an actual accident without it.

Renee: Cool! Glad you could use it and a great deal. Sparky's chipped and she manages to take care of her own nails...other than play she's low maintenance. :)

Ann: The chips are the way to go, tags can fall off, or be taken off.

Jaime: Yes it is important and a great community service. Spread the word!

Roberta - What will they think of next, I am not up on the times because I have no pets. But I think it's a great idea. A friend of mine mentioned to me that when a dogs nose is pointed out side a car window when it's moving that it really messes up their senses and can create problems for them, is that true?

By the way, love the dog!

Hi Roberta.   If Sparky is publicly endorsing the Chip and Clip, then I suspect it will be an overwhelming success!  I guess it's her DISC "High I" shining through! :)

Robert: They've had the tech for a while now. I believe my friend that's a vet has said that dust / dirt is an issue, and of course injury from having their head out a car window.

Steve: Sparky is just a sucker for fellow dog causes...has done quite a few.
